How to Save a Video's Thumbnail Image
Thumbnails are stored as standalone image files — you don't need to screenshot the video player.
Why screenshotting is the wrong approach
A screenshot captures whatever resolution your screen happens to render, plus any player UI in the frame. The actual thumbnail file sitting on the platform's servers is almost always higher quality.
