MP4 vs WebM: Which Format Should You Download?
Most people should just pick MP4 — here's why, and the rare cases where WebM makes more sense.
MP4: the safe default
MP4 (using H.264 or H.265 video) plays natively on essentially every phone, tablet, smart TV, and video editor without conversion. AndBucket serves MP4 by default for exactly this reason.
WebM: smaller, but less universal
WebM files are often smaller for the same visual quality, which is why some platforms use it internally. The trade-off is spottier support in older editing software and some non-Chromium browsers.
Unless you specifically need WebM for a web project, MP4 remains the more compatible choice for everyday downloads.
