Browser Extensions vs. Web-Based Downloaders
Both approaches get you the same file. The trade-offs are about permissions and convenience.
What each approach actually does
A browser extension runs inside every page you visit and typically adds a download button directly on supported sites, while a web-based tool only activates when you paste a link into it.
That difference matters for how much access each one has to your browsing in general.
Permissions to think about
Extensions request broad permissions to read and modify pages you visit, which is a reasonable trade for convenience from a well-reviewed extension, but a real risk from an unknown one.
A web-based tool never touches pages you haven't explicitly pasted a link from, which is a smaller footprint by design.
Which one to pick
If you download frequently from one specific site, a reputable extension saves clicks. For occasional, cross-platform downloading, a web tool avoids installing anything at all.
