Video Metadata Explained: What Actually Gets Saved with a Download
A video file carries more than just video. Here's what that extra data usually includes.
What's typically embedded
Most video files carry basic metadata like resolution, frame rate, codec, and duration, embedded automatically by whatever encoded the file — this is standard and not platform-specific.
What usually doesn't carry over
Platform-specific details like the caption, uploader's username, or original post link generally aren't embedded in the video file itself; that information lives on the platform, not in the file.
Why this matters for organizing downloads
Since the source context doesn't travel with the file automatically, renaming downloads with a note about where they came from is the simplest way to avoid a folder full of anonymous-looking clips later.
