Why Reddit Videos Download Without Sound (And How to Fix It)
If you've ever downloaded a Reddit video and gotten silence, this is why — and how to avoid it.
Reddit's video hosting is split in two
Reddit's native video player (v.redd.it) streams the visual track and the audio track as two completely separate files, stitched together only in the player itself.
Right-clicking and saving the video in most browsers grabs only the silent video stream, which is the source of a very common complaint.
How a proper downloader handles it
A tool built for Reddit links fetches both streams and merges them into a single MP4 before handing it back to you, so the file plays normally with sound in any media player.
This merge step is invisible to you — you just paste the post link and get a working file.
A note on crossposts and galleries
Crossposted videos resolve back to the original post's media, so the link still works even if you found the video on a subreddit that isn't the original source.
Reddit's image galleries are a separate format entirely and aren't handled by a video downloader — those need to be saved image by image.
