How to Save Snapchat Stories and Spotlight Videos

Snapchat content is built to vanish. Here's what's actually possible to save, and what isn't.

What counts as public on Snapchat

Snapchat separates private Snaps sent between friends from public content like Spotlight videos and Stories a creator has chosen to share widely.

Only the public side is accessible through any browser-based tool — private Snaps are locked to the app and the person they were sent to.

Saving a Spotlight video

Spotlight videos are Snapchat's public short-video feed, similar in spirit to Reels or Shorts. Creators can share a direct link to any Spotlight post, and that link works the same way any other video link does in a downloader.

Tap Share on the video, copy the link, and paste it into a tool built for Snapchat links.

Why Stories are trickier

A Story is only public if the account itself is public and the specific Story hasn't been restricted to friends. Even then, the 24-hour expiry means the underlying file eventually disappears from Snapchat's servers entirely, at which point no tool can retrieve it.

If you need to keep something long-term, save it as soon as you see it rather than waiting.
